Hello there! We are so excited to bring you into our new segment at OffHeap. Called "Mark And Sweep", we dive into different interviews from notable developers across time. With Ed Burns (author of the Secrets of the RockStar Programmers), and the usual OffHeap crew, we listen, dissect, and comment on these interviews.
Our First episode is none other than James Gosling. He is considered the "Father of Java", and he put the Java language on the map (which was named "Oak" at the beginning). Ed interviewed him for his book a little while ago, and incredibly, a lot of the advice and ideas he mentioned still holds very well today. So come and take a listen on this first pilot episode of Mark And Sweep.

Whew, it has been an intense month for IT in general! We dive in our updates (as we are nearing JavaOne), and check on Java 9, Spring 5 and Java EE. After that we dive into IBM's delayed project (and it's owning of 78 million back to the state). We would be remiss if we didn't talk about the hot topic which is of diversity and tolerance in IT (and touch upon the Google's employee manifesto and Charlottesville). You read that right! We were invited to GoTo Chicago to record Java OffHeap live! And we went into it with gusto, first talking with Georges Saab (@gsaab) and Ed Burns (@edburns) on the Future of Java, and then diving in with James Weaver (@javaFXpert) and Dean Wampler (@deanwampler) 2on the current Java News, including microservices and javascript. A big episode, but worth listening to!
So Deprecation is getting serious! Nobody should be using object.finalize(), and if you are, shame on you! This deprecation will have some bite! Also, we just heard the rumours. If you use an Internet Service Provider in the US, that means they can sell all the information about you (yikes!). Lastly, there has been a new MicroServices survey out there and we want to take a look and see what's shaking (and who is shaking) the ever-evolving microservices world.

We made it! After taking a short flight, and re-assembling the crew in Atlanta, we finally made it to DevNexus, the conference run by Atlanta Java User Group. DevNexus is not just a great conference in itself, but it's a great place to run and talk to top tier speakers without breaking the bank. We did our own talking by running into Ted Neward (@tedneward) and Chris Richardson (@crichardson)! We actually manage to sucker-punch them into playing a little game of Trivia with us! At the end, we explore if the Cloud the new Mainframe, and came to some interesting conclusions. An episode like no other, you definitively need to listen to this one!

Ah, well, it has been promised, and it WILL be delivered. Java 9 is feature complete! And we start taking a look at what is (http/2 finally?), and more importantly, what was cut-off from the release. We also did dive into what does it means when developers can't migrate to the US. Is it good for our industry? Or is it meh, as people just telecommute? And as long as we're talking policy we touched on Net Neutrality since it might be an issue this year. Do we have to say goodbye to those millions and millions of undeterred bit streams?

Episode 20. It's the End of the Year! Let's recap! and Oh noes, seems some FUD is coming our way from the Register?! So the end of 2016 is upon us! And as such we should take a little time to reflect on what a year we had. Of course, before diving into that we gotta talk about the infamous article by the Register telling us Oracle is coming to charge us for Java (gasp!) by using some misworded (or misleading) headlines.
Also, Gartner is telling us that there are no Java EE Application Servers? True/false? We talk about it and let you decide!
